Texture Artist Wanted!

It's no secret that since computers got more than eight colours my ability to make textures has gone completely tits up and pear shaped.

My absolute need to make new furniture for the Caldera Experiment has left me with a dilemma. What I really need right now is someone that is willing to work with me and my models to create a medieval style touch to the interiors.

I could just slap a wood texture on them and have done with it but I want something more.

Most medieval furniture had carvings and markings like this;

Now I know this can be done with stencils, a good eye and time but as I am now alone on the project I just don't want to spend the time needed to create the textures as I am already immensely busy on models, planning scripts, possible quests and figuring out how to make everything slot together.

If you think you can help me out on the texture side then please let me know. The right person needs to be available, willing to stick it out for every piece of furniture and most of all, someone that wants to see their textures in the living world of Morrowind.

You can contact me on any of the following;

Email; grisco.services@gmail.com

Discord; The Caldera Experiment

 Or right here through the comments section of this blog.

I will need the artist to start soon so please, please click those links and get in on this project.

Thanks in advance

The Caldera Candle Company

At long last I have removed the thorn in my side! All those damn candles everywhere on Vvardenfell and no one that makes them. That had to be fixed. Now we have another reason for the Dreugh wax and one more thing that doesn't leave you wondering "Where the .... do they all come from"?

We may just see a brewery next or something else I've always wanted to see in game.

Remember. If you have ideas or suggestions then you can drop me a line or even bang something in the comments below..

Five minutes of fame...

If you have ever wondered how British I was here is your chance... A really long interview of me by DarkElfGuy where I prattle on about not liking RPG's, how thr community is full of nerds and the best of British culture...

Aside from that I did manage to make a new model today and add it to the game.

Since this snap shot it's received a door overhang and a hand rail at the top of those stairs.

So what's left? A little slum area for commoners and non other than the Caldera Candle Company which I am looking forward to making.

Thanks all for the great ideas (mostly for quests) that I've received, you really surprised me with the amount I got!!

I would love to use them all but maybe I will at some point but, for now, I will be very happy to finish all the models and start on the interiors - they are challenging.

Blacksmith of dooooom!

After seven incarnations of Holismod's blackmith I buckled down today and made a final model. Piecing together lots of ideas from medieval smith's yards and again some influence from Age of Kings I managed to design something I was happy with at long last.

View in Nifskope

In game view
And I couldn't resist a quick video;

That's it for today. Tomorrow I will do a few needed tweaks on the model that I didn't notice until it was in game and possibly then I can move on to the final exterior models.

Also today I added a WIP page to ModDB - The Caldera Experiment

Thanks to Trancemaster I finally figured it out :D

New things

I didn't think it was going to be but today turned out quite productive, for Caldera anyway.

Finally managed to make a Ghorak manor that I am happy with and make it look a bit creepy to boot.

There will be a spiky iron railed fence surrounding it later and new windows especially for it but for now....

I also managed to fit in a set of steps for the barracks and a better arched entrance for it as well....

Bad weather when I took these pics :D

Here's to another productive day tomorrow and maybe just maybe I will be almost done with the exterior models (the big stuff at least)

Another shot of Ghorak from the modelling program

Please remember. If you have any ideas (this includes interiors/ furniture etc) then please visit the Discord or send me an email - You can even comment in the box below this post (no one comments on blogsites!)

Laters.

Busy day.

Today I managed to strike a couple of things from my long list. One of those things being the Caldera Guard Barracks.

It turned out a lot bigger than I first anticipated but I believe it needed it. All that ebony and stuff.

Here she is;

Fills a large gap where I had no idea what to put there...

Here is the model itself before vertex shading was added and other tweaks;

I also managed to get around to starting the models for the market stalls. Well, one at least.

Hang on. You know what? I'll just make a quick video.

(Please ignore the window in the last part! I didn't see that :D)

Here are the models and layout so far...

Clutter, buildings, NPC's, quest ideas, shops etc are all welcome.

Stairs go up...

The first interior mesh is made and tested today.

It was a long day deciding how to attack this beast but in the end I won.

That's one down...32 to go!

Hopefully more tomorrow.

Here's a sneak preview of it in Wings. No more slotting tile sets together and trying to match them up. Ex-Building-01 == In-Building-01

There will of course be pieces to add. Windows, door frames and partitions that will make each one unique (if you use that particular building twice that is).

Caldera made a huge step forward today. Hope you like it?!

Two new...

Two new models added today. No idea what this guard house/ granary/ gazebo/ market cross/ storage house actually is but I liked the model.

This model was a request for a house with a balcony (thieving opportunities evidently...)

Going to need play testers soon.... any takers give me a shout.

The Classy Kwama

New building Friday! The miners pub, named by Merlord not me. The Classy Kwama...

Should be fun making the sign for this one.

A Kwama forager in a top hat is the idea so far. We shall see.

I was going to bed but I couldn't leave it without knowing what it looked like in game....

Just another day

Another productive day on Caldera and as a plus, France beat Belgium. My dream of an England v France final draws ever closer....IF we beat Croatia tonight that is.

(Click to enlarge)

Today saw the addition of the mages tower model, a wrought iron mages sign and a real time, working town clock (video tomorrow).

I thought yesterday was special when TheDrunkenMudcrab offered to write a quest for the town but today was just as special when Merlord popped up and assisted in writing the clock script.

More assistance please! 2090 isn't in my nature.... (but I wouldn't complain if it was in my future).

Here's to later.

Good luck lads!

Feeling good.....

Well at least it is eventually. Very sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances I will be now working alone on the project and I'm looking for a few things. If you think you can add to Caldera in any way I would love to hear from you.

Ideas, input and general suggestions from the community is all I'm asking for. Don't worry. I'll be doing the work.

Doesn't matter if you have no idea where the CS is you can be of a great help. Someone in Caldera annoy you for being so bland? Give them a back story and help me make Caldera come alive.

Suggestion for a new NPC? Let me know. I also want to know his habits, his hobby, his job, her likes and dislikes , her race etc. etc.

The exterior modelling is almost complete but I will always be willing to come back to it and add something I think is worthy of inclusion.

This is a much bigger project than most will appreciate and I need all the help I can get.

If you can and want to help them please send your suggestions to me by E-mail on my Discord or just write them in the comments below (no one ever writes comments on a blog unless it's about women's issues lol)

Right. Back to the grindstone. Literally :D

Sunday 8 July 2018

Finally...

Well, after much work and deliberation I finally have a design I like for Caldera and construction has started properly in the CS.

There are still some shading issues that I am fully aware of and a few more models need to be added for the final push but it does now feel like it's all coming together.

More to follow....later today.

Friday 6 July 2018

7 models later....

So. I actually did get to do some more models for Caldera.

Here's what I have so far (please ignore the shading on the centre house >.<)

Hopefully tomorrow will be as productive. And by tomorrow I mean in a few hours.

Thursday 5 July 2018

A bit late

A belated happy 4th of July to the other side of the pond. I was very surprised to find fireworks going off here last night and not sure if it was a late England party for the World Cup or if we actually had those American types in our village.

One can only hope it was the World cup of course.

Needless to say I spent my "Lucky we escaped that one" day doing bugger all apart from pissing about in the garden with the wife, daughter and grandson. At one point I did consider lighting the barbecue but that would have taken way too much effort.

After spending a good part of this morning attempting to coax a sparrow out from behind my fridge after leaving my back doors open I decided to do some typing here while the wife does her getting ready for "work" thing. (I don't think she has ever done more than 3 hours in a row)

Yet again it promises to be over 30C today but I do intend to make another model for Caldera anyway.

The house style I stumbled upon floated my boat so much I've decided to change them all. Sounds like a big job but at about an hour per model it really isn't.

Heinrich very kindly allowed me to use his textures from his WHO for the brickwork which look decidedly better than the existing ones.

Hopefully some screen shots will follow;

Quite hard to see really. Or is it the sunlight through my window?

Tuesday 3 July 2018

Liked it so much I did it twice

I really liked the style of the last house so I made another one of a smaller size.

Here it is through the stages (This took 90 minutes - You can ask Sweden V Switzerland)

I suppose I should say congratulations to Trancemaster for Sweden but we have a deal that he now has to support England tonight!

New house for Caldera

Morning all. Last night I found a google pic of a house I quite liked and thought it would be good for Caldera. Due to the Japan V Belgium game I only managed to place a cube or 2 in Wings so I decided to finish up this morning. Here she is;

This first one has some stone type pillars on the corners that I ended up not liking due to complications with the brick sizes and the texture.

Fully mapped now and at this point I was still fighting with the pillars.

They had to go.

Time to make the worlds simplest windows.

Pop those in place and add some shading

Finish it off with some dents and bends here and there and we're all done.  (The door is separate and will go at the front)

4 Tri-shapes. Not too bad. 3 if I had opted for separate windows.

I will be expanding on this a little later with a modular connecting bridge and possibly another house that can slot onto this one.

We shall see....

Ok we shall indeed. Here it is with a modular connection bridge in all its glory;

What it looks like in game is a completely different matter.

Monday 2 July 2018

Dry as a nuns crotch

Did the interview/ pod cast with DarkElfGuy earlier. 3 hours 40 minutes later we finished. I could have drank a bloody river even though the wife was supplying me with constant beverages.

Anyway. While we talked I managed to add some more clutter to Caldera. A wheel!

I also believe that BadLuckBurt has made a nice new shovel as well that I have yet to see.

Impressive yes?

Also re-mapped the "cart full of crap"

With a bit of luck later I will be making another building. This time it will be all stone to break up that wattle and daub business.

The place is starting to clutter up nicely now but still need a few more items I think.

A little rockery garden for the front of Nedhelas's haunted house was created as well, although I am tempted to model some new rocks especially for the task

I have come to realise that the foliage options are pretty weak but don't want to get into all that as well.

Too much to be going on with to bother....maybe?

Also aired today is the interview with Gnomey, a lead developer of Tamriel Rebuilt.

Right I'm off. Hopefully more screen shots tomorrow of Caldera and Burt's shovel.

I've neglected Morrowind once again! The neck went wonky and I couldn't sit here wasting my life but...I did get a chance to finish ...
